Carbohydrates and Diabetes

Nutritionally deprived individuals typically eat more over-processed junk food- low in nutritional value but high in simple carbohydrates. This type of food offers quick energy but not sustained energy, requiring the need to eat more and more as the body attempts to get its daily requirement of nutrition. Keep in mind that all carbohydrates are sugar inside the human body. The question is how fast the carbohydrate will convert into sugar; the simpler the carbohydrate the faster the conversion takes place. Examples of simple carbohydrates are a russet potato and honey- both a bad idea if one has diabetes. Contrast these to complex carbohydrates like a sweet potato and a whole grain black rice that offer anti-oxidant properties which protect from free radicals.

Remember that all carbohydrates are sugar to fuel your muscles and brain. If you are having a difficult time controlling the amount of simple carbohydrates in your diet consider using kudzu root extract, use 3-6 capsules per meal.

Ketosis and Carbohydrates

Since we are discussing carbohydrates lets also consider the concept of ketosis. Ketones are made when the liver makes glucose because we are not consuming enough carbohydrates. The liver, being the friendly organ it is, will gladly produce glucose when your body requires extra energy. This process happens by breaking down protein and fat, but there are ketones left over from this process. The American Diabetic Association has stated that dangerously high levels of ketones can lead to a diabetic coma or death. So it is not good to completely deprive one's body of carbohydrates; the better action would be to limit the portion size and make sure all carbohydrates are complex, when consuming juices stick with the adage "Dark and Tart" as your better pick.

Oils and Diabetes

The oil we eat can induce and prolong diabetes. Diabetes mellitus is characterized by high blood sugar coupled with biochemical alterations of glucose and lipid peroxidation (free radicals, e.g., Reactive Oxygen Species). On the surface this oil-diabetes idea appears preposterous to most, but consider that diabetes is a group of nutritional deficiencies. One type of cooking that causes diabetes is frying food in the wrong type of oil. As the oil is heated up, the preservative, hydrogen, which was added to the oil to stop the spoilage is removed. As the heat increases, the hydrogen atom is removed and oxygen takes its place, creating rancid oil.

Environmental stress, produced by excessive heat exposure during cooking, produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) in oils. As heat is increased, free radicals increase dramatically. This may result in significant damage to cell structures of the person who consumes the oil-saturated food. Ionization of molecules can lead to radiolysis, (breaking chemical bonds,) and formation of highly reactive free radicals- this reaction is known to cause diseases like diabetes and cancer in mammalian subjects. The only safe oils that I have found to heat safely are peanut oil and coconut oil. Olive oil is a nutritionally rich oil at room temperature, but when heated up creates free radicals.

An observation I have made in some nutritional deprived persons, is the stomach acid and intrinsic factor is insufficient to effectively digest their meal. Explanation; our bodies have the ability to sample the content of our stomach checking for vitamins, mineral, protein, essential fatty acids, and carbohydrates, if the body does not detect enough nutrients, a signal to the brain is sent indicating the person is still hungry.

Fried Chicken Experiment

I did an experiment on myself using fried chicken from the local restaurant. This restaurant was a small, family-owned, American restaurant using cheap oil to keep down on costs. Yes, this was the typical restaurant found all over America, not fast-food, but definitely not a five star restaurant. The experiment went like this: every morning I took my blood sample and looked at it under a 2400 magnification microscope to look at the quality and composition of the red blood cell; every morning my blood looked perfect. At noon I ate 2 pieces of fried chicken then retested my blood 2 hours later. My blood was stuck together- showing classic signs of aggregation and rouleaux.

Rouleaux No Rouleaux

Now keep in mind that Rouleaux looks like the red blood cells are stacked on their sides of the cell like little coins. It could also be compared in looks to a toy called a "slinky" that is stretched out when viewed on its side. Rouleaux are seen in people with multiple cancers. There are two main types of cancers that cause rouleaux formation of the blood- Waldenstrom acroglobulinemia a chronic cancer that affects plasma cells, and multiple myeloma a cancer that starts in the plasma cells in bone marrow.

Rouleaux are also seen in persons with connective tissue disorders, and in diabetes mellitus micro vascular occlusion in diabetic retinopathy. But what is also prevalent is increased blood viscosity which affects the passage of the blood cells through the micro vessels, especially in veins with low flow rates. Some of the capillaries are actually only one epithelial cell thick, and in fact the red blood cell has to fold itself in half to push through the capillaries. Now, if the red blood cell is stacked up 10 or 50 cells thick how can it make it through? It cannot. This low-oxygen environment will start the damage of the cells and organs and eventually create conditions like diabetic retinopathy and diabetic nephropathy, which also damages the kidneys.

Rouleaux and Diabetes

In Diabetic nephropathy, the Myelin becomes damaged. Myelin is the insulate protecting the nerve; an analogy would be to liken the myelin to the protective coating on a wire. As the myelin is damaged the nerve is over-stimulated, creating hyper excitation of the nerve. This produces an endless loop feeding into itself so the pain never stops until the nerve ending is destroyed. The problem is that a diabetic with this condition could step onto a nail and never know until infection like gangrene takes over- creating the need for amputation, not to mention the damage to all organs as the systolic and or diastolic pressure go up due to increased viscosity and to blockages.

As seen above, Rouleaux and blood aggregation can lead to chronic infections which triggers inflammation and numerous other harmful conditions. Eating food high in ROS free radicals can create rouleaux. As the free radicals damage the thin cell membrane, this will induce a low oxygen environment in the body. Low oxygen in the body will trigger events like pitting edema in many people.

Stop free radical damage with Oxidation Mender

A problem for diabetics is the typical medical doctor will not understand rouleaux- or blood aggregation- and will simply discount the idea completely. Find a Naturopath who performs live blood cell analysis, correct your diet, and if you have rouleaux or aggregation use Cardiovascular Mender, this will fix the issue in some people in as little as two hours.

Now back to the experiment. I continued to eat cheap, restaurant, fried chicken every day for two weeks. Every day was the same; my blood looked good in the morning, but 2 hours after eating the fried chicken, rouleaux and aggregation formation occurred. So I consumed Cardiovascular Mender, and at 6:00pm I would re-examine my blood… guess what, it was perfect again!

In my next experiment, I ate chicken fried in coconut oil. I checked my blood in morning and it was perfect; I checked my blood 2 hours after eating the coconut oil fried chicken… and it was perfect. I then checked my blood at 6:00pm it was still perfect.

Conclusion of Fried Chicken Experiment

The oil- not the meat- creates free radical damage, causing cellular damage to the red blood cells as I saw in my own blood testing. Now keep in mind that I do not have diabetes, or any other disease associated with aggregation and rouleaux. I find most people who have hypertension, have these issues. Some naturopaths that I have spoken with suggest to their patients that the rouleaux is from eating meat, this could be right for some people. But in my experiment, it was the oil, not the meat. Once I changed the oil, the rouleax was gone. Humans need their essential amino acids, found in meat, and if one is highly motivated they can get it through rice and bean combinations. Find a good vegetarian cook book for diabetics or you could create some very serious health problems by inducing essential amino acid deficiencies.

Stereotypes and Diabetes

Today's culture spouts the notion that the skinny are smart, informed, good people, and the overweight people are in contrast lazy, stupid, uninformed rubes who need the government to tell them what to eat, think, and do. The overweight are treated like children who need corrective measures so they can be manipulated into the correct actions of taking allopathic drugs by their doctors. These mandated thoughts miss the bigger point… we are all different; not a monolithic slice of humanity! Lower your calories, take your drugs and you will manage your diabetes. This idea is naive and smacks of hubris. I reject the notion completely. I believe the grand majority of diabetics are people who want to be diabetic free, not burdened with a disease that over time can rob them of eyesight, cause amputations, and increase the risk of liver and heart failure (just to name a few of the complications).

So, if you are thin, make sure it is from a nutritious diet that satisfies your metabolic needs, not based on starvation. If you are heavy, look at you diet and make sure you are not deprived of nutrition, and that you are digesting your food. Looking at the outside of a person does not give a complete understanding of their metabolic needs or their nutritional obstacles.

Hunger and Satiety

Ghrelin hormone levels increase before meals, stimulating hunger. After eating, levels of Ghrelin decrease based upon communication from the stomach about nutritional content or as a result of mechanical fullness. But if fullness was stimulated by mechanical pressure not nutrition, satiety hunger will quickly come back.

Overview: After we chew our food, the food enters into the stomach, at this point pressure is created by the mass and weight of the food and the stomach itself begins to expand. The biochemical process of digesting food can begin, hydrochloric acid, Pepsinogen, and intrinsic factor (found in Stomach Advanced) are secreted, allowing the digestion process to take place . As the concentration of stomach acid (hydrochloric acid) is increased, protein denaturing begins as Pepsinogen is converted into pepsin- this action can only take place when the pH is below 4- but hopefully the pH about 2.0. At this point the vitamins and complex phyto-chemicals your body needs have to be protected from this highly acid environment. The cells in the stomach wall produces intrinsic-factors and it is these glycoproteins that protect vitamins from denaturing, allowing a nutritional satiety to take place.

When you think of diabetes think of nutrition. Ask, "What nutrition does my body need?" If you can figure out the deficiency you can reverse the disease state.

Weight loss

A common symptom of diabetes is weight loss. Why this is true is actually simple. The body is not making enough stomach acid and enzymes which in turns creates malnutrition. Foods are broken down and digested in the intestines, but the process first starts in the stomach. After it leaves the stomach it enters into the duodenum in the upper part of the stomach where the acids are neutralized and the bile and enzymes are secreted . When enzymes and other digestive juices are not amply created in the body, complete digestion cannot take place, and nutrients pass through the body leaving expensive stool and a metabolically deprived body in its path.

How fast are the Responses?

Diabetic Mender can start to control diabetes for most people within the first 5-20 days of taking the product. Most people consume Diabetic Mender 2 capsules 3 times per day eaten with each meal. Assuming you eat three times a day, you need 6 capsules total per 24 hours.

One question people frequently ask is why the product does not work the first day or two. The answer lies in one of the ingredients- vanadium. The dosage of vanadium taken allows your cells to detect the insulin the body is producing. Too much vanadium would make the product work faster; however when vanadium was first discovered to help with diabetics in the 1800's, the problem was that they took large dosages which created inflammation of the eyes and lungs and other unpleasant side effects. Diabetic Mender use a very small amount of vanadium, in fact you could consume 3 times of what I suggest and it will work and still be inside a safe dosage of vanadium. I want your body repaired not under stress.

Glycogenolysis: How big of a problem is it?

Glycogenolysis is why some people are unable to lower their blood sugar, I have spoken to people who had sustained blood sugar levels of around 350-400 and the insulin they were injecting was unable to lower their blood sugar.

I have noticed that Diabetic Mender improvements are life changing, but it does not always work, a damaged liver and endocrine system, can trigger Dawn phenomenon. Hormones, like glucagon, epinephrine, growth hormone, and cortisol, raise blood glucose level, by signaling the liver to release more glucose and by inhibiting glucose utilization throughout the body. The process of glycogenesis produces glucose. The problem is the feedback loop from the cells does not tell the liver to stop producing glucose, so over time the organ becomes increasingly damaged, and the health of the individual becomes worse. Keep in mind your body can be repaired, but we must take a proactive approach and address all your underlying metabolic needs.

Dawn Phenomenon

The observations I have made are with people who have dawn phenomenon / uncontrollable diabetes- their blood sugar goes down very little when they are sleeping and in extreme cases the blood sugar actually rises. I would suggest the body is making its own sugar. The cells of the body are screaming for energy, the liver is capable of making glucose from protein and fat, the leftover reactions create acidic ketones in the bloodstream that can be detected in the urine. The presence of ketones (acetoacetic acid) in the urine is an indication of how your body metabolizes fat, if you have been asleep all night and ketones are detected in your body let me suggest that your liver needs to be repaired.

Liver Mender can improve this liver condition and help correct this issue within the first month in some individuals, and some as fast as 2 weeks. So far everyone who has tried this for Dawn Phenomenon / Glycogenolysis has seen improvements. Glucose numbers as high as 400 as an average. In one case 750 was reported, three weeks later it was lowered to 135 within three weeks.

Magnesium and Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease resulting in insufficient production and/or inefficient use of insulin. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas. Insulin helps convert sugar and starches in food into energy to sustain life. There are two types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is most often diagnosed in children and adolescents, and results from the body's inability to make insulin. Type 2 diabetes, which is sometimes referred to as adult-onset diabetes, is the most common form of diabetes. It is usually seen in adults and is most often associated with an inability to use the insulin made by the pancreas. Obesity is a risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes. In recent years, rates of type 2 diabetes have increased along with the rising rates of obesity.

Carbohydrate Metabolism

Magnesium plays an important role in carbohydrate metabolism. It may influence the release and activity of insulin, the hormone that helps control blood glucose (sugar) levels. Low blood levels of magnesium (hypomagnesemia) are frequently seen in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Hypomagnesemia may worsen insulin resistance, a condition that often precedes diabetes, or may be a consequence of insulin resistance. Individuals with insulin resistance do not use insulin efficiently and require greater amounts of insulin to maintain blood sugar within normal levels. The kidneys possibly lose their ability to retain magnesium during periods of severe hyperglycemia (significantly elevated blood glucose). The increased loss of magnesium in urine may then result in lower blood levels of magnesium. In older adults, correcting magnesium depletion may improve insulin response and action .

The Nurses' Health Study (NHS) and the Health Professionals' Follow-up Study (HFS) follow more than 170,000 health professionals through questionnaires the participants complete every 2 years. Diet was first evaluated in 1980 in the NHS and in 1986 in the HFS, and dietary assessments have been completed every 2 to 4 years since. Information on the use of dietary supplements, including multivitamins, is also collected. As part of these studies, over 127,000 participants (85,060 women and 42,872 men) with no history of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or cancer at baseline were followed to examine risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes. Women were followed for 18 years; men were followed for 12 years. Over time, the risk for developing type 2 diabetes was greater in men and women with a lower magnesium intake. This study supports the dietary recommendation to increase consumption of major food sources of magnesium, such as whole grains, nuts, and green leafy vegetables .

The Iowa Women's Health Study has followed a group of older women since 1986. Researchers from this study examined the association between women's risk of developing type 2 diabetes and intake of carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and dietary magnesium. Dietary intake was estimated by a food frequency questionnaire, and incidence of diabetes throughout 6 years of follow-up was determined by asking participants if they had been diagnosed by a doctor as having diabetes. Based on baseline dietary intake assessment only, researchers' findings suggested that a greater intake of whole grains, dietary fiber, and magnesium decreased the risk of developing diabetes in older women.

The Women's Health Study was originally designed to evaluate the benefits versus risks of low-dose aspirin and vitamin E supplementation in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer in women 45 years of age and older. In an examination of almost 40,000 women participating in this study, researchers also examined the association between magnesium intake and incidence of type 2 diabetes over an average of 6 years. Among women who were overweight, the risk of developing type 2 diabetes was significantly greater among those with lower magnesium intake. This study also supports the dietary recommendation to increase consumption of major food sources of magnesium, such as whole grains, nuts, and green leafy vegetables..

Several clinical studies have examined the potential benefit of supplemental magnesium on control of type 2 diabetes. In one such study, 63 subjects with below normal serum magnesium levels received either 2.5 grams of oral magnesium chloride daily "in liquid form" (providing 300 mg elemental magnesium per day) or a placebo. At the end of the 16-week study period, those who received the magnesium supplement had higher blood levels of magnesium and improved control of diabetes, as suggested by lower hemoglobin A1C levels, than those who received a placebo. Hemoglobin A1C is a test that measures overall control of blood glucose over the previous 2 to 3 months, and is considered by many doctors to be the single most important blood test for diabetics.

Mg Oxide Increase Did Not Control Diabetes

In another study, 128 patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes were randomized to receive a placebo or a supplement with either 500 mg or 1000 mg of magnesium oxide (MgO) for 30 days. All patients were also treated with diet or diet plus oral medication to control blood glucose levels. Magnesium levels increased in the group receiving 1000 mg magnesium oxide per day (equal to 600 mg elemental magnesium per day) but did not significantly change in the placebo group or the group receiving 500 mg of magnesium oxide per day (equal to 300 mg elemental magnesium per day). However, neither level of magnesium supplementation significantly improved blood glucose control.
