Cholesterol is the precursor to all steroid  hormones, in fact testosterone deficiency has been called the “primary event" initiating the synergistic process involving insulin resistance, diabetes, myocardial infarction (heart attacks) and stroke. Testosterone levels independently predict the likelihood of developing diabetes, and restoring depleted levels has been shown to improve insulin resistance. Nutrient based deficiencies caused by genetic mutation, aging, cancer and statin-type drugs can cause a decrease of ubidecarenone in serum (blood) and/or tissue. The amount of ubidecarenone found in the diet is not significant enough to increase ubidecarenone in the blood.

Significant increase in the blood requires supplementation of a minimum of 100 mg of ubidecarenone per day and a maximum dosage of 1200 mg of ubidecarenone per day.
